Hi, I would like to know if the jatropha plant can be cultivated in a warm climate, such as in the tropics, and if it does reproduce seeds. Where can I buy these seeds on the internet, and if by any chance anyone does know which ingredient of the seeds does make it possible for it to be converted to bio-diesel.

It can be easily cultivated in the tropics, as it is a tropical plant . Now read further.Jatropha is a genus of approximately 175 succulents, shrubs and trees (some are deciduous, like Jatropha curcas .), from the family Euphorbiaceae.Plants from the genus natively occur in India, Africa, North America, and the Caribbean.Originating in the Caribbean, the jatropha was spread as a valuable hedge plant to Africa and Asia by Portuguese traders. The mature small trees bear male and female inflorescence, and do not grow very tall. Biodiesel from Jatropha-Currently the oil from Jatropha curcas seeds is widely used for making biodiesel fuel in India, and is being promoted as an easily grown biofuel crop in hundreds of projects throughout India and the third world. The rail line between Mumbai and Delhi is planted with Jatropha and the train itself runs on 15-20% biodiesel. The plant can grow in wastelands, and it yields more than four times as much fuel per hectare as soybean, and more than ten times that of corn. A hectare of jatropha produces 1,892 liters of fuel. Also Jatropha is a one-stage conversion to biodiesel. For seed supply click the link below-http://www.jatrophaseeds.com/For more information try the following links--http://www.jatrophabiodiesel.org/http://www.jatrophaplantsource.com/http://english.aljazeera.net/English/archive/archive?ArchiveId=36271http://www.jatropha.de/http://www.jatrophaworld.org/http://keralaarticles.blogspot.com/2007/02/jatropha-rag-to-riches-story-of-humble.html

Yes, it is a shrub that grows in tropical and equatorial climates, so enjoys warm weathers very much. Some species of this genera grow here in Brazil, where it is known as pinhao-manso or pinhao-roxo.Through this link you may receive seed. At least they say that.

is the first website where you can find a wide selection of Jatropha seeds from all over the world.
Seeds are selected and tested in pilot plantations and are sold opportunely treated: coated, incrusted and pelletted. These processes improve seeds conservation (up to two years) and the absorption of water and nutrition in the first phases of growing.
Try our seeds and tomorrow you could become a biofuels producer too.

Technically Jatropha crops only must to be saw in the tropics. In Colombia we have a pilot crop with success results. Colombia is seeking investors for Jatropha crops. We can aid to investors in searching best lands for Jatropha crops

Not sure if this is a little too late, i've been planting Jatropha for roughly 2years in South East Asia and we are producing seeds and saplings for the south east asian markets.
Jatropha generally grows very well in the ASEAN climates and at the 15deg north and south of the equator. Our plots yields fruits within 4-5mths of planting given good pruning and fertilizer applications. And our seeds yield 33%-45% oil content.
If theres a need pls contact me at my personal email:
